Poker against a payout table
Let It Ride emerged from Shuffle Master’s casino games in the early nineties. Its distinctive choice is withdrawing parts of an initial commitment as more cards appear. You do not bluff, draw replacements or beat a dealer’s hand: your final poker category determines the payout. This article explains a counter-only learning game, not the administrative procedures of a licensed casino or its optional jackpot products.

Three equal bets and five cards
Use a freshly shuffled 52-card pack without jokers, a dealer and 1–7 player positions. Each player places 3 equal stakes in spaces marked 1, 2 and $. Deal each player 3 private cards face down, then 2 shared cards face down. For learning, deal from the hand without extra burn cards; casinos may prescribe a different mechanical procedure. The dealer has no competing hand. Keep private cards private and never exchange them.

Two decisions in a fixed order
Inspect only your private cards. Either retrieve stake 1 or leave it riding. Reveal the first community card; now retrieve stake 2 or leave it. These choices are independent: retrieving the first does not force retrieval of the second. Reveal the last community card and settle. Stake $ cannot be withdrawn. A stake left earlier cannot be removed later. No increases, replacements or extra decisions are permitted in this basic game.

Read the entire five-card hand
Combine all 3 private cards with both shared cards: there is no choice of a subset. From high to low: royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pairs, pair, high card. A straight uses consecutive ranks; A 2 3 4 5 is low and 10 J Q K A high, never Q K A 2 3. A flush has one suit. At least a pair of tens is needed to win; smaller single pairs lose.

The selected payout schedule
For each stake still riding, profit per unit is: royal flush 1000, straight flush 200, four of a kind 50, full house 11, flush 8, straight 5, three of a kind 3, two pairs 2, qualifying pair 1. Return the winning stake as well; pay only the highest category. Losing active stakes are collected, withdrawn stakes are safe. This is one published schedule, not a universal payout promise. Side bets have separate rules and are excluded here.

A pair that improves to three
Place 1 unit in each betting space. Private cards Q♣, Q♦, 4♠ already guarantee a qualifying pair, so leave the first stake. The first shared card 7♥ cannot remove that pair; leave the second. The last card Q♥ makes three queens. All 3 stakes pay 3 each: profit 9, with the original 3 returned, total receipt 12. Withdrawing both optional stakes would instead leave only the mandatory stake earning profit. For a learning session, agree a fixed number of rounds and compare net balances.
