Challenges and quick taps
Egyptian Ratscrew is a modern American Beggar My Neighbour relative with an added right to claim the pile by tapping it. The name does not establish Egyptian origins. Bicycle lists several slap variants; our table enables only doubles and sandwiches. Top-bottom, sums, sequences and jokers are off. The aim is to collect the pack, not shed cards.
02 /
Concealed personal packets
Play with 2–6 and a 52-card pack without jokers. Choose dealer by lot, shuffle and deal all cards singly clockwise. Packets may differ by a card. With 2 players each has 26. Never inspect or rearrange them. Dealer’s left begins: turn the top away from yourself onto the centre so everyone sees it together. After an ordinary 2–10 without a slap pattern, turn passes to the next nonempty packet. Suits are irrelevant.
03 /
Answering a court or ace
A challenges the next player for up to 4 flips, K for 3, Q for 2, J for 1. Responder flips singly until producing A or a court, or exhausting the allowance. A new court immediately replaces the old challenge, passing its allowance to the next player. With only numerals, the last court player takes the entire centre beneath their packet and leads again. Preserve collected order without shuffling. Running out before completing the allowance also loses the challenge; remaining flips are not transferred onward.

A slap overrides the challenge
Double means the last two cards share a rank. Sandwich means equal outer ranks with one different card between. Any participant, including an empty packet, may tap a valid pattern first, take the whole centre underneath and lead. This overrides a challenge, even on its final card before collection. Only the current top pattern counts; a covered earlier pattern is no longer claimable.
For a false slap, put 1 top card face down beneath the centre; challenge and turn do not change. Our agreement removes an empty false-slapper’s return rights for the game. Simultaneous slaps favour the lowest hand; if first cannot be determined, continue without awarding.

Empty packets and winning
With no cards, skip flips but watch for a legal slap back in. There are no separate points. For a definite ending our table allows a last slap window on the existing pattern when only one packet remains nonempty. If nobody legally claims the centre, award it to that player: now holding all 52, they win. Do not play three extra “last chance” cards after collecting the pack. A new game moves dealer left.

Double interrupts queen payment
A played Q♠, giving B 2 chances. First was 5♥, second 5♦. Q was not answered by a court, but consecutive 5 cards permit a slap. C, even with an empty packet, taps first and takes Q♠,5♥,5♦ instead of A. C puts those 3 cards face down into the packet and starts the next round.
