Which Dhumbal profile?
Dhumbal is a Nepali hand-reduction game also encountered as Jhyap and alongside Yaniv. Accounts differ even on draw order and court values. We fully select Nepali Games’ home operator profile: draw before discarding, courts worth 10, no runs. This is not CardRulesPlus’s zero-J profile or a claim about compulsory rules in every Nepali family.
02 /
Deal and card values
Play with 2–6 individuals and one 52-card pack without jokers. A=1, 2–10 face value, J,Q,K each 10; suits do not affect the total. Choose dealer by lot, shuffle and cut at the right. Deal 5 each clockwise from the left, expose the next as discard and leave the rest as stock. Dealer’s left starts; deal moves left after each deal. Hands are not restored to their original size: group discards shrink them.

Draw first, then discard
At turn start you may call Dhumbal with a total at most 5, drawing nothing and revealing immediately. Otherwise take exactly one stock top or discard top. Then discard one card or at least two of one rank. Part of a set may be discarded, but not mixed ranks or a run. A card taken from the open discard cannot be returned that turn, even inside a group; a stock card can. The group’s last card becomes the new top. If stock empties, retain the top discard and shuffle the rest into new stock.

Resolving the call
On a call everyone reveals totals. Strictly lower than every other hand makes caller the deal winner, charged nothing. If anyone matches or beats you, you are caught: charge 25 instead of your hand, not added to it. Lowest other hand wins; equal lows favour the first clockwise from dealer’s left. Other players are charged their hand values. An empty hand does not win automatically: after emptying, wait until your next turn begins and call.

Settlement and session end
Winner collects every opponent’s charge: winner’s change is positive, others negative, summing to 0. Start the ledger at 0, play 3 deals, highest total wins and ties share place. This profile has no elimination at 100. Operator caps a long deal at 200 ordinary turns: then show hands without a calling penalty, lowest wins with the same tie order. This is a selected bounded session, not a universal Dhumbal code.

A pair discard shrinks the hand
A holds K♠,K♥,A♦,A♣,A♥, total 23. Draw 2♦, then discard both K: three A and 2♦ remain, total 5. Calling now is illegal because the turn already began with a draw. At the next turn start A may call. If the sole opponent also has 5, A pays 25 and opponent receives +25. Do not charge A 30 or declare a tie.
